Top Three Powerbait Colors and How To Rig It for Stocked Trout Lake fishing

In Northcentral PA, anglers can enjoy stocked trout fishing in Hamilton Lake, Beechwood Lake, Lyman Run Lake, Little Pine, and more.  Berkley Powerbait dough baits are an excellent choice for fishing these lakes.  It's scent mimics the food they're used to eating and the color options are seemingly endless.  While many of the colors and flavors are very effective, this week we're taking a look at our top 3 choices that will guarentee you some success on the water-

#1 Corn Yellow - This has been the top seller for at least 3 years now and continues to produce fish season after season.  It's a bright color that fish just can't seem to resist.

#2 Chartreuse - Chartreuse comes in a variety of styles including plain chartreuse, chartreuse garlic, chartreuse with glitter, chartreuse nuggets, and more.  Anglers have their favorites, but any of them are solid fish catchers all season long.

#3 Salmon Peach - A newer addition to our lineup, salmon peach has become a top producer over the last few years and now tops older favorites like fluorescent orange and even rainbow.  Get it in extra scent (glitter) or plain powerbait, and you won't be disappointed.

How to Rig Powerbait for Lake Fishing

Berkley Powerbait, and similar dough baits, can be fished in a variety of ways, however the carolina rig style tends to work best and keeps the bait in the strike zone.

Step 1:
Slide a 1/8oz to 1/4 oz slip sinker onto main line.  A fixed sinker will also work, but the slip sinker allows the bait to move more freely and fish will feel less resistance when it takes the bait.

Step 2:
Attach a small barrel swivel.

Step 3:
Tie 18-24" of leader material to the swivel.  4-6lb monofilament works best.  Fluorocarbon leader tends to sink and is not ideal for this setup.

Step 4:

Attach a treble hook (Size 12-18).  Smaller hooks tend to work better.  Trebles help keep the bait on the hook better, but single hooks can also be used.  Keep in mind, this rig is best for harvesting fish and is not recommended for catch and release fishing.  Powerbait tends to get swallowed easily.

Step 5:
Mold powerbait around the hook, fully covering and hiding the hook.
